One engineer. One mission. From a 3D printed rotary engine in a bedroom to a hydrogen hypercar — every project, every iteration, every failure is a step on the same road.
SSM Engineering — Silver Speed Motors — is a one-man engineering company based in New Zealand, founded on the belief that ambition and a 3D printer can take you further than a degree and a budget ever could.
What started as a name in an automotive game became a real engineering company with real projects, real documentation, and a real end goal: Ryujin — a 4 rotor hybrid hydrogen hypercar.
Every component is designed, tested, iterated and documented. From the first failed print to the working prototype — the process is the product.
A ground-up custom rotary engine built on RX-7 proportions. Currently at V1.45 with motor driven rotation confirmed. The powerplant for Project Rain-Drop.
Rise Against The Air. A 3D printed wind tunnel for aerodynamic development of Project Rain-Drop. Venturi entry and flow straightener designed.
The main event. A custom chassis, custom rotary engine, and an attempt at the gas-powered RC car land speed record. The raindrop is the embodiment of aerodynamics.
The first functional prototype for Project Rain-Drop. Not built to break records, but to show what Rain can be without fully embodying its true nature.
The final form of Project Rain-Drop. Embodying every learning experience before it to take on the gas-powered RC car land speed record.
A full scale rotary powered motorcycle. Proof that SSM Engineering can build at scale. The bridge between RC engineering and Ryujin.
Custom rotary engine development and RC land speed record attempt. Building the knowledge base and proving the concept.
The final Rain-Drop prototype. Gas powered. Record attempt. Every lesson from every iteration applied.
1-2 rotor rotary motorcycle. First full scale build. Proving SSM Engineering can operate beyond RC scale.
A modern RX-7 FC inspired street car with a 2 rotor engine meeting modern emissions standards. The final proof before the hypercar.
4 rotor hybrid hydrogen hypercar. GT1 inspired. Carbon monocoque. Four drive modes. The reason everything else exists.
